Jean-Francois Blais - podcasteur/podcaster (Pingback)
[…] I never thought I would say this, but after reading about Microsoft embrassing the podcasting movement with the Zune 2 coming out this November, I'm anxious to see it at work. People around me know that I'm an big Apple fan and that I really don't like Windows (I would like to talk about Vista, but I don't know a single person who has switched yet…). But as a consultant, I have to be honest and objective. Don't I? I think iTunes has done a great job up to now to provide us with good content. It has a great deal of what we want : entertainment and education. It was a good start and a revolution in the medias with the advent of podcasting. It was a good start… But what about now? Should podcasting remain a subcategory of the iTunes MUSIC Store? I think not. Podcasting has grown and is still growing apart from music. Most podcasts are "talk radio" and don't have a lot of music in it. And that's where Microsoft is becoming more appealing to me. Their new directory puts podcasts side to side to Music. And the great news is they're not changing the name of the media: it's still PODcasting. Many people still think that they can't listen to podcasts because they don't own an iPod, but Microsft doesn't mind the name and doesn't seem they want to embark on a ridiculous name race (podcast or zunecast?)… To read more on the subject, here are a few links : Zuneinsider.com: Unveiling jasonvanorden.com: One-Click Podcast Subscription for Zune Marketing online live : Now The Microsoft Has Embraced Podcasting With The Zune, What Changes? Enjoyed the MOL Zune episode.
I have been an IT Manager for over 20 years and over that time I like
many have turned to MS many times. I am pretty much an MS shop. Would
I allow the Zune in my infrastructure? Would I support it? … You
made me think about it… and I not only would I support it, I think
that I am going buy a unit and have my network admin "beta" it for a
while. The wireless capabilities push this unit OVER THE TOP.
Time to start doing some research.
